SEVEN: DAY OF THE RAPTURE
Jesus confirms with his disciples that the resurrection of the faithful saints will take place on the "last day." The resurrection of the dead takes place on the day of the rapture for the dead in Christ rise first then those who are alive who remain will be called up in order. What does Jesus mean by last day? This "last day" cannot be the resurrection of the dead at the end of His thousand year reign for this "last day" pertains to the resurrection of the saints who are raised from the dead in the first resurrection prior to the thousand years. This "last day" cannot be the last day of the world for the world goes on for a thousand years after the first resurrection. The "last day" is the day that Jesus returns to the world to harvest the world. At the harvest Jesus separates the saved from the unsaved. Luke 17:30 to 36 provides a description of both the harvesting of the saints, the wheat, into the kingdom and then harvesting of the tares, the wicked, into the wrath of God. Luke makes is clear by taking one and leaving the other behind to incur the wrath of God, this harvest is the rapture of the Church. This rapture/harvest is further substantiated by the angels harvesting the saints who have risen into the air to meet Jesus, Mth. 24:31. There is only one harvest of the saints and it takes place on the last day. If the rapture of the Church occurs prior to the tribulation then there would have to be two harvests, one for the Pre-trib saints and one for the tribulation saints yet no where do we find a second harvest of the saints. The "last day" simply means the last day of grace; the last day of the Church age; the day of the harvest. It is the last day to enter the ark of the the rapture to escape the wrath of God. Just as the day of destruction of the earth and the people in Noah's day by the flood and just as the time of the death angel over Egypt was let lose and just as the the hour of fire and brimstone rained down upon Sodom and Gomorrah were all examples of God's wrath coming down upon unbelievers while at the same time everyone who placed their faith in God were protected from God's wrath so will it be on the last day. God's wrath is poured out immediately after the entire Church has been sealed and secured by God into the rapture. "And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed." Dan. 11:35 |
